South Africans warned of job scams overseas
Updated | By Mmangaliso Khumalo
The Department of International Relations has urged South Africans to be more careful when applying for jobs in other countries.
The warning comes after a young woman from Limpopo recently fell victim to an English teacher job scam in Thailand.
The department's spokesperson Clayson Monyela on Tuesday morning tweeted a warning, warning South Africans against accepting overseas job offers without doing thorough checks.
He says young South Africans in particular are falling for these scams, which he adds there are a lot of online.
Monyela says some of them are run by human traffickers.
He's urged anyone who receives an employment offer from overseas to contact the department to verify its legitimacy.
Monyela adds that the ministry has launched the Dirco Travel Smart App that will allow travellers to register with the department if they will be travelling abroad for work, study, leisure or any other reason.
The app allows you to share information with Dirco so that if any situation arises, consular services can locate you or your next-of-kin.
