South African speaks of 'absolute chaos' in Bali

A young South African woman has spoken of the nightmare of trying to get home from Bali, where a volcano on the resort island could erupt at any time.

"At the airport there was absolute chaos. People were running around, it was dishevelled. All the airlines had opened information desks on the lower level and people were just piling up," she says.

Lara Peach, a Stellenbosch student is on holiday in Bali.  

She's wanting to come home after a warning that Mount Agung is showing signs of erupting.   


Bali's airport has been closed for a second day as plumes of ash continue to gush from the rumbling volcano.

Thousands of tourists are stranded at Ngurah Rai International Airport, with flights grounded until tomorrow morning.   

Experts have raised the volcanic alert level in Bali to its highest.  

Tens of thousands of frightened locals have fled their homes.  


Peach says they're very worried and scared.

"Our Airline, Singapore Air was relatively helpful. We had to wait for about two hours but they told us they would relocate us to another hotel. We really don't know, no one can really tell us how long we will be stuck in Bali," she says.
