The mother of 18-month-old Samkelo Cele from Ntuzuma who was found in a bushy trench after being stuck there alone for three days, says she will never let her son out of her sight again.
The baby boy was found around 200 metres from his father's home yesterday morning covered in grass and rubble by Sergeant Clinton Odayar and his canine pal Dante from the Durban K9 Unit.
Thando Cele has told Newswatch from their Lindelani home that she could not eat or sleep after searching frantically for her child to no avail.
Cele described finding her son as a miracle as he had been in there throughout the weekend's cold and wet weather.
"We asked the community to help us find the child. We looked for him, searching everywhere even at night but we didn't find him.
"Yesterday, the police came with the dog. They searched and searched and the dog found the child alive. I'm thankful to God my child was found alive," she said.
Cele says that Samkelo was given a clean bill of health at the KwaMashu Poly Clinic where he was taken after he was found.
