SONA debate: EFF says Ramaphosa not fit to be leader

The debate on the State of the Nation Address went into day two on Tuesday with the EFF’s Omphile Moatwe claiming President Cyril Ramaphosa is not a leader.

"The address you gave here last week Thursday was a consistent maker of your inconsistency, your indecisiveness, lack of direction and you betrayal of your of the hopes of millions of our people,” she told MPs at Cape Town City Hall.

"Your declaration that the State cannot create jobs should have been the final nail in your presidency. You did not only abandon your obligation to create jobs, but you are also on a dangerous path to decapitating state-owned entities."

Democratic Alliance MP Leon Schreiber brought up the ANC deployment committee.

Last month, the party said it would seek a perjury order against Ramaphosa after he testified at the State Capture Commission that the deployment committee never tried to influence judicial appointments.

The DA said the minutes of the committee's March 2019 meeting prove otherwise because names of judges it wanted deployed to higher courts and Constitutional Court were put forward.

Schreiber has told Parliament he hopes the president will answer a question they have for him when he responds to the SONA debate.

"When the state capture commission confirms at the end of this month that the ANC cadre deployment committee he chaired is the key cause of corruption and state capture in this country.

"Will he support the DA's efforts to abolish it? South Africans deserve a courageous answer tomorrow for this fundamental question. There can be little doubt that the president has finally realised just how badly his fellow cadres have broken the State."
