Some KZN municipalities ready to phase-in Aarto system
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Local government says seven municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal are ready to roll out the Aarto system.
eThekwini, Msunduzi, uMhlathuze, Newcastle, Ray Nkonyeni, Alfred Duma, and KwaDukuza will kick off the system, which is being phased in nationally.
Aarto - is short for Administration Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences.
Drivers guilty of breaking road rules will be penalised with demerit points that could lead to the suspension or cancellation of licences.
KZN's executive council has welcomed the system saying it will help improve behaviour and reduce road accidents.
Phase four of the rollout will see the demerits system taking effect in July next year.
