Society at large should benefit from sporting ban: expert

An economist feels the decision to suspend some sports bodies from bidding to host international events will have far reaching effects on society.
Sports and Recreation Minister Fikile Mbalula yesterday barred SA Rugby, Cricket South Africa and Athletics SA from bidding for major sporting events due to a lack of transformation.
Economist Mike Schussler says international events bring in revenue and help job creation.

"It's very much a question of who benefits at the end of the day. Is it only rugby or cricket or only white players who benefit or does it benefit the society much broader than that. That's the only question that I think needs answering," he said.
