Social Development suspends funding to Dafta
Updated | By Xolani Khumalo
KwaZulu-Natal Social Development has been explaining why it's withdrawn its financial support for the Chatsworth Durban Association for the Aged.
The department's suspended funding for the NPO with immediate effect.
Spokesperson Mhlaba Memela says there've been concerns about internal disputes at the organisation involving its board members.
He says the non-profits suffered because of this and has failed to render much-needed services to vulnerable groups.
The department says it's reached out to Dafta to remind it of its compliance requirements.

Its monitors and evaluators have held several meetings with the NPO.
But Memela says they've been left with no choice.
"The department had written letters in the organisation trying to encourage them to be able to resolve their problems, but they failed to resolve their problems. Therefore the department took the decision to suspend funding."
The suspension of funding is in line with clause 4 of the Service Level Agreement.
