KZN Social Development to continue aid to flood-affected families

Local government officials say they will continue to support the families who lost loved ones during KwaZulu-Natal's devastating floods over Easter.
A provincial disaster was declared after more than 70 people died.
The Social Development Department yesterday presented the families with financial packages. MEC Nonhlanhla Khoza says they want to help them get back on their feet.

"Sassa brought food parcels but on top of that - they gave each family R15 000 by that time and R3500 at some point to keep families going. We wanted to close that page and the national Social Development Department offered them R20 000 per member who died," Khoza said.

Co-operative Governance says R90-million has been made available to eThekwini Municipality to rebuild properties and relocate of displaced families.
