Smooth registrations at MUT and DUT

Students have applauded both the Durban University of Technology and the Mangosuthu University Of Technology in Umlazi for the smooth registration process at both institutions over the past two days.

This is in stark contrast to some universities in Gauteng - particularly Wits University and the University of Johannesburg, where the process has been characterised by unhappiness over online registrations and the resumption of the Fees Must Fall protests.

At DUT, Newswatch was met by empty chairs in the hall - with just a handful of students waiting to register this afternoon at the Ritson Campus.

Students who were done with their registration say it took no more than 20 minutes.

DUT is doing both physical and online registration which has helped to cut down the queues.

But it’s been a different scenario at MUT where many students were found waiting in line.

They however told Newswatch the queue was moving quickly.

Only those owing tuition fees have had difficulty registering online and have had to come in physically to register.
