Smaller businesses cannot afford alternative power sources, warns Durban chamber

The Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry says load shedding's forcing some businesses to seek additional sources of reliable power to keep them up and running.
The country's had to cope with stage 6 power cuts since the weekend.
Eskom reduced the blackouts to stage 5 on Tuesday morning.

The chamber says productivity losses are being seen across all sectors.
It's concerned about the ripple effect of revenue losses on unplanned operational expenditure and jobs.

The chamber says SMMEs are having to source alternative energy solutions such as generators, inverters, or uninterruptible power supply devices to mitigate the effects of load shedding, something these small businesses cannot afford to do.
