Updated | By Noxolo Miya
There's been a drop in South Africa's murder rate.
The latest crime statistics also show a decrease in the number of sexual offences cases reported to the police between April and June compared to the same period last year.
The head of the police's crime research Norman Sekhukhune says more than 6 200 people were murdered over these three months.

The figure stood at more than 6 400 last year.
He says misunderstandings, arguments and mob justice were the main contributors to these crimes, involving mainly firearms and knives.
"For the current quarter we recorder a decrease of murders of 196, that is a 3.1 percent reduction. Sexual offence [recorded] a decrease of 239 that is a 2 percent decrease."
Sekhukhune presented the latest quarterly crime report to parliament's police portfolio committee on Friday morning.
