Slight change in KZN blood stock levels
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
The SA National Blood Service says some medical procedures and surgeries that were put on hold recently due to the critical shortage - will now continue.
All operations in non-life threatening or emergency situations had to be postponed.
The blood bank's Sifiso Khoza says a significant number of donors came forward over the past week - but more help is needed.
"The KZN blood stocks have increased to three and a half days, that is still not enough. Every single day of the year we need 3000 units which should keep us going for at least five days," he says.

He says blood drives will be held across the province in the coming weeks.
"We want to appeal to every South African to donate at least four times a year, so we can try avoid situations that we've been finding ourselves in over the last couple of weeks," he says.
