Updated | By Lauren Beukes
The family of a senior advisor to the Zulu royal family is desperately seeking answers after he was shot and killed last night in Nongoma, northern KwaZulu-Natal.
According to police, Prince Muntukaphiwana Zulu died on the spot, while a second person he was travelling with died later at a local clinic.
Zulu royal family spokesperson Prince Thulani Zulu says they visited the late prince's family on Friday morning.
"Everyone is just sitting quietly, thinking of what happened because this place has had several incidents of this nature, but it hasn't happened to a royal member. It is the first time."
He says the family doesn't know what happened as it was unexpected.

On the day of the shooting he was with his family, preparing for a braai.
"The prince came from work and then bought some meat for family members to braai and then he went to buy some drinks at a shop and then he never came back."
Prince Muntukaphiwana Zulu is the second person close to Zulu King MisuZulu to be killed.
Just two months ago, a close associate and advisor to the Zulu king, Dr Dumisani Khumalo, was shot and killed while leaving the Umkhosi Womhlanga Reed Dance ceremony.
