Guatemalan national, Diego Novella is being held in connection with the murder of Gabriela Alban, who was found strangled in the luxury hotel.

Alban's family who travelled to Cape Town following her death have accompanied her body back home to Los Angeles.

In a statement yesterday, they described her as a loving, smart and clean-living woman.

Weekend reports have suggested Alban was killed during a drug-fuelled sex game gone wrong.

Novella, who comes from a wealthy family, has already appeared in the Cape Town Magistrates' Court on a charge of murder and will be back in court on Friday.

Alban's parents have thanked all those who have helped them and have vowed to return to South Africa to seek justice for their daughter.
