Glebelands councillor refused to return home to keep loved ones safe
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The family of murdered ANC ward councillor Zodwa Sibiya who was killed at the infamous Glebelands Hostel in Umlazi says she refused to move back to the family home out of fear that they would be killed as well.
Speaking to Newswatch from the family home where prayer vigils have been taking place, her aunt and family spokesperson, Nonhlanhla Sibiya says they pleaded with her on many occasions to come back home to Umlazi.
Nonhlanhla says Zodwa didn't want the people behind her murder to kill her family. She hopes that the death of her niece will not be in vain, saying intervention must take place at the hostel.

"So many people have died, men and women. We don't know what is wrong in that place. We are just asking God to intervene because nobody in the world can help this place.
"We don't want anyone to die like that. We would like everybody to pray, we must pray for that place,"
Sibiya went on to thank everyone who has assisted the family in this time of need.
