The five men and one woman were arrested at a guest house in the northern KZN town last night, after they were found in possession of hundreds of social grant cards.

Authorities received a tip-off about the suspects' activities, and monitored them for two weeks before their arrest.

KZN Sassa spokesperson, Mbizeni Mdlalose says they are not certain whether these are fraudulent or stolen cards.

"All of the Sassa cards that are in the wrongful hands - we regard them as a fake card. All Sassa cards are issued at Sassa offices. We want to find out where these cards originate from. You will know that there is a video trending on social media where people are in possession of this card. So, we are not sure who these people are," he said.
