SIU says in possession of Fivaz report on Eskom

The Special Investigating Unit's head Advocate Andy Mothibi has told Parliament the unit is in possession of the much-talked-about Fivaz report.

Earlier this year, Eskom's former CEO Andre de Ruyter told the Standing Committee on Public Accounts that he had commissioned the services of a private company to investigate alleged corruption and criminality at the power utility.

It was later revealed the probe was partly bankrolled by Business Unity South Africa, which is said to have paid R18 million towards the estimated R50 million bill.

Eskom's board of directors, executives, and the relevant authorities, including the SIU, told the committee that they had neither commissioned nor seen the report.

On Wednesday, Mothibi said they had fulfilled their commitment to Scopa to find the report and are now going through it.

"We reached out to George Fivaz Forensics and Risk, which was the company that conducted this investigation. I can confirm that the SIU has obtained this report."

He said the document, which is more than 1,400 pages long, was being subjected to the unit's investigation methodology and protocols and would inform further investigations and referrals.

"We are aware acutely aware that we have to deal with this report as urgently as possible to determine the course of action. That course of action should bear in mind that this report could enable the required outcomes or further investigation by SIU, SAPS or DPCI, or ID."

Mothibi said they were also investigating how the investigation was commissioned as part of their probe into maladministration.

The police deputy minister Cassel Mathale confirmed that the Hawks are also in possession of the report.

Meanwhile, Mothibi also told the committee that they are aware of the recent allegations of corruption and involvement of sabotage against Eskom's head of security, and they are looking into the claims.
