eThekwini says it welcomes the probe by the Special Investigating Unit into alleged corruption and maladministration in the municipality's housing unit.

The investigation centres around the sale or transfer of vacant properties by developers contracted by the City for its Human Settlements Infill Housing Programme.
The SIU is focusing on all payments the municipality made regarding the allegations.

The City's spokesperson, Msawakhe Mayisela, says they'll cooperate with the unit. "Under no circumstances should we allow a situation whereby there are hurdles to these institutions."
"Because we believe that fraud and corruption is an obstacle for us to be able to improve the well being of the poor people. Fraud and corruption in the city, we have declared it as our enemy number one."
The SIU is also probing the COVID-19 Temporary Employee/Employer Relief Scheme (TERS) benefits.
"The investigation will look at payments that date back to 1 March 2020 and 1 April 2021 or that took place after 01 April but relevant to, connected with or involve the same people, entities or contracts being investigated," Kganyago said.
