SIU launches probe into corruption at 14 govt departments, entities

Fourteen government departments and entities are going to be probed for corruption and maladministration by the Special Investigating Unit.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has authorised the investigations.
"Eleven government departments, the Newcastle Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal, the South Africa Social Security Agency and South African Council of Educators and to recover any financial losses suffered by the State as a result of negligence and corruption," says SIU spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago.

"Eleven government departments cover under the new proclamation include the national Department of Health, all provincial Departments of Health and the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport."
The KZN Transport claims relate to irregular and wasteful expenditure identified by the auditor-general.
Newcastle Municipality is having its procurement processes scrutinised, particularly four contracts that were awarded.
