Shutdown in Vuwani suspended
The pro-Makhado group in Vuwani in Limpopo has confirmed that the shutdown in the area has been suspended.
Pro-Makhado spokesperson Nsavo Sambo said they accepted the proposal following a meeting with President Jacob Zuma, that the area would receive services from the district municipality.
"We have called off the shutdown and thus schooling, services, business, public transport will go back to normal today," he told Jacaranda FM News.
He said that more details about the meeting with President Zuma will be conveyed to members of the community during a mass meeting.
"We are still working on the technical details of the mass meeting."
Residents want the Vuwani area to be reincorporated into the Makhado municipality.
Discussions will continue during the course of the week to find a long-term solution to the demarcation issue.
The shut-down was suspended, even though President Zuma' failed to address the crowd.
Presidential spokesman, Bongani Nqgulunga said it was felt that the gathering was not representative all the concerned parties.
Following President Zuma's no-show, some members of the crowd turned violent.
Cars were stoned and mobile toilets were toppled over.
