Should the legal drinking age be raised?
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The National African Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry says it sees more negative outcomes in the pipeline if government increases the minimum drinking age from the current 18 to 21 years.

The matter is currently being mulled by Cabinet while a number of organisations have come out in support thereof.
However NAFCOC's President, Lawrence Mavundla says increasing the legal age will only make the youth more curious about drinking than they already are.
Young people are never going to stop drinking because there's a law. What will happen is that young people will drink at home and in other homes.
"That is going to educate even younger people to start drinking. At the moment if they are drinking in the bars and taverns they are isolated there," he said.
