Shootout near KwaMashu leaves two officers injured
Updated | By Lauren Hendricks
Two police officers are recovering in hospital after they were shot near KwaMashu, north of Durban.

It's understood that a gang of ten suspects opened fire on the on-duty officers in the Bester area on Tuesday.
KZN police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says the officers retaliated.
"The officers returned fire and the suspects fled from the scene of the crime. Two officers were injured during the shooting and were rushed to hospital for treatment."

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the police officers may have driven into a feud between two rival groups that were allegedly already engaged in a shootout at the time.
Netshiunda says KZN SAPS is investigating cases of attempted murder.
There have been no arrests.
