Shock at brutal killing of Durban matriculant

The
National Teachers Union has expressed shock at the brutal killing of a Grade 12
pupil in Durban.
The 18-year-old girl, Sibulelo Maphumulo, was shot in the head while studying in one of the cottages of Mehlomlungu Secondary School at Khatha in Kranskop on Tuesday night.
Natu secretary general Doctor Ngema says the incident will have a devastating effect on Sibulelo's friends, especially those who witnessed the incident.

"We are calling on the department to strengthen the issue of safety in schools by ensuring that they are appointing security guards who have the expertise and are trained and well equipped to ensure that the issue of safety of learners and teachers are not compromised.
“We call on the department to deploy the social services to go to the schools and assist the learners to continue with their lives and prepare for the upcoming exams."
