They expect no disruptions as a result of last month's floods in the province.

The silvery fish make their way up the east coast every year, bringing out throngs of fisherfolk and other locals looking to fill crates.

"There seem to be initial citings of a lot of sardines down the coast. The question is whether or not they are going to come up the coast and when?

"It largely depends on the coastal water temperatures. If that cold water pushes up along the coast, then the sardines should follow it up and if that happens, we should have another good year.

"We are going to have to wait and see and we are hoping that the timing of it is the end of May. By then, all the freshwater we've had along the coast has dissipated."
