Shivambu deploys team to scout interest for new party
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Former uMkhonto weSizwe Party secretary-general Floyd Shivambu has laid down strict rules for his newly formed team who will embark on nationwide engagements.

On Friday, Shivambu unveiled a group of ‘Mayibuye’ leaders from all provinces.
Their job is to test the waters to ascertain if there's public support for Shivambu to form a new political party.
" No one of us must say those who will come and participate later in this process are 'mafikizolo' (Johnny-come-lately).
"All of us who must welcome people and respect them. The other principle that was established is that there will be no functionalism amongst ourselves here."

Shivambu launched the initiative last week, days after being stripped of his leadership role and reduced to an ordinary MK member.
He spoke at a press briefing in Gauteng and says he is confident they have potential at the polls.
"If the outcome of the consultation process is that we must launch a political party or movement, the national conversion is going to do exactly that.
"If the mandate is that we must contest the 2026 local government elections and the 2029 general elections, we are going to do so and win those elections decisively."
