Shembe Church welcomes Maritzburg High Court succession ruling
Updated | By Lethiwe Mdluli, Nushera Soodyal
The Pietermaritzburgh High Court has confirmed a Durban High Court ruling - that the rightful leader of the Shembe Church is the late Vela Shembe.
There was a dispute in the church over the leadership after the death of former leader, Vimbeni Shembe in 2011.
Following his death, Vimbeni Shembe's son, Mduduzi and brother, Vela both claimed they were told by Vimbeni that they would succeed him.
Vela died last year.
After losing in the Durban High Court - Mduduzi appealed the decision.
Church spokesperson, Silindelo Bhengu spoke to Newswatch outside the Pietermaritzburg High Court - saying they are happy with today's outcome.
