Shembe church reacts to homosexuality remarks
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
A faction of the Shembe church says it supports the controversial statement allegedly made by a rival leader, blaming the current drought on homosexuals.
Spokesperson for the Ekuphakameni faction, Edward Xaba says they do not condone homosexuality in their teachings.
"Shembe II and Shembe III have said this has nothing to do with God," he said.
eBuhleni leader, Mduduzi Shembe made the statement in northern KZN at the weekend.
The DA yesterday called on the church's members to distance themselves from the comments.
The Commission for Gender Equality is also investigating the alleged homophobic statement.
The church has distanced itself from the comments but says Shembe was merely quoting scripture.
