Shaka's Head: Santaco calls for safety measures
Updated | By Nondumiso Zakwe
The council's Boy Zondi says the proposal was made in an effort to decrease the number of accidents at the off-ramp.
16 people were killed when the taxi they were travelling in veered off the road and landed on a railway line.
The vehicle was then struck by a train. Zondi says Monday's crash was the third major accident in the area.
He says Santaco works closely with the Transport Department to ensure road safety.
''We don't want our vehicles to be overloaded, we don't want our drivers to speed on the road or use unroadworthy vehicles because it's the same unroadworthy vehicles and speed that mainly causes these kind of accidents,'' he said.
