Severe thunderstorms expected in southern Berg

The South African Weather Service has released a weather warning for severe thunderstorms in parts of KwaZulu-Natal, including the southern Drakensberg, uThukela and Harry Gwala districts - which includes areas like Ixopo, Kokstad,Umzimkhulu and Giants Castle among others.

The weather service says the slow moving storms will move eastwards towards western uMgungundlovu with possible heavy downpours and hail.

The warning has been issued until 9pm tonight.


Forecaster, Aslam Sardiwalla explains the warning in more depth below:

Underberg, Giants Castle and Kokstad will reach a high of 25 degrees today, with a 60 percent chance of showers and thundershowers.

Ixopo will reach a maximum of 25 degrees today, with a 30 percent chance of showers and thundershowers.
