Court denies seven UKZN PMB students bail

Seven of the so-called UKZN 11 have been denied bail in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court.

The remaining four have been granted R1000 bail - with conditions attached.
The magistrate says she based her decision on footage apparently showing some of the students in custody throwing stones and bottles at police.

Bail conditions for the four who have been released include that they stay at alternative addresses, and only go to campus for tests and lectures.
They're are also not allowed at the institution's residences.
Earlier today, scores of students gathered outside the court in support of their arrested peers - who have been in police custody for three weeks.
