Senzo Mchunu to comply with ANC National Working Committee's directive
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
Premier Senzo Mchunu says he will co-operate with the ANC's National Working Committee on his resignation after which he will respond in writing to his suggested redeployment.
Earlier this afternoon, Mchunu confirmed that he is stepping down as Premier of the province.
Mchunu says he had a meeting with the party leadership at the ANC's provincial offices on Friday where his resignation was discussed.
He says he was given until today to vacate his position.
Mchunu also confirmed in a statement that six other allegations levelled against him were also discussed, but he was not at liberty to divulge these.
He says yesterday the ANC's Secretary, Gwede Mantashe also spoke to him about his redeployment and asked him to resign in order to allow for a provincial cabinet re-shuffle.
Mchunu is likely to be redeployed to the National Assembly.
