The marine died after a series of confrontations at Kings Park Rugby Stadium after a match between the Sharks and the Melbourne Rebels two years ago.
The court previously found that the State had not proved that the intention had been to kill Williams when he was kicked.
Witnesses had included three doctors and a paramedic.
Shepard had originally been accused with three other people of his death outside Durban's Kings Park Stadium on March 23 2013.
A fifth person, Grant Cramer, was initially charged with assault, but turned State witness.
The case against Andries van der Merwe, Dustin van Wyk, and Shepard's older brother Kyle was discharged in December.
