Sentencing continues in #Durbanbaby case
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Sentencing proceedings in the missing Durban baby case are expected to continue today.

The mother of a then one-month-old baby girl led police on a frantic search after reporting a false hijacking in March.
The woman's mother, probation officer and social worker testified in the Durban Magistrate's Court yesterday.
Testifying in mitigation of sentence yesterday, social worker Lydia Watson says the woman made every effort to see her child while she was being home in crisis care.

Watson told the court that direct imprisonment would upset the family dynamic. It also emerged in court that the baby girl was returned to her family in December.
Watson says the little girl's grandmother was also screened as a potential foster parent.
The grandmother - and mother of the accused - told the court she did not think she could care for the baby and her siblings if her daughter was sent to jail.

She said her daughter was the family's sole breadwinner. The State argued that the mother's actions are of someone who did not want to care for her children.
