An artist from KZN whose interactive digital art exhibition has received critical acclaim is urging young art lovers to join in the #selfie25 movement.

#selfie25: KZN artist gets Durbanites interacting

Created by Simphiwe Xulu, the #Selfie25 exhibition currently on display at the KZNSA Art Gallery features digital prints of 25 young and influential South Africans.

The Eshowe-raised artist says the exhibition offers a different experience to that of physically walking into a gallery.

"The execution and how I wanted to tell the story is what I wanted to be new. The website that we are building will feel like you're walking into an art gallery.

"The experience of seeing the final artwork is going to be digital and can be accesses from anywhere - from your mobile phone or your tablet," he said.

These designs feature game changers such as  fashion blogger Lesego “ThickLeeyonce” Legobane, musician Thandiswa Mazwai, and entrepreneur Adewale Adejumo just to name a few.

Guests are to take a selfie with artworks at an art gallery and share the images on social media, using the hashtag #selfie25.

The #selfie25 exhibition runs until October 18 at the KZNSA Art Gallery .

#Selfie25 - 11/25 (Artwork Sold Out) Artwork Name | Internet Jetset Zuper Twitter & Instagra | @okmalumkoolkat Name | Simiso "OkMalumKoolKat" Zwane Website | http://okmalume.tumblr.com/ Why I chose OkMalumKoolKat... A futurist in the creative scene juxtaposing african culture with music, design and technology. Design Indaba describes Okmalumkoolkat as a vocalist, dancer, clothing designer, DJ and tastemaker who connects underground culture and its emergence to the mainstream. On being OkMalumKoolKat.. Okmalumkoolkat is one of the alter egos. I’ve got a few. There’s International Pantsula, who’s this guy flying around the world, experimenting with global concepts and styles. I’ve got Dr. Kataza who’s this kinda “kill everything” total destruction-like character. Then there’s Future Mfana, who’s this futuristic guy with Saber Zulu fighting sticks -almost like an Afro-Science Fiction character. Okmalumkoolkat is really just me, back when I used to dance like crazy in the 90s. When I was all about girls and being a player. And although my lifestyle isn’t really like that anymore, I still write as this character, to express one of those unlikely stereotypes in South African society. Considering no one’s really doing that at the moment, it’s a great way to let it all out. – From interview with MusicInAfrica.net (2014) Artwork Cost (A2 Only) Sold Out A project by @Mr_MediaX #Selfie25 #DigitalArt #Instabition #Art #Nedbank #TheMostSelfiedArtworkEver

The current CEO of the KZN Science Centre, Candice Potgeiter’s passion for improving the quality of education in KwaZulu-Natal and South Africa has seen her lead her team to many milestones in her capacity as CEO. Beyond creating the cheapest science resource kit in the country, she also helped start one of the first early childhood development centers in KwaZulu-Natal. Candice and her team continue to be proud advocates for science education in rural South Africa and they continue the fight to implement and create highly successful school programmes that empower the underprivileged On her selfie.. Hardworking, resilient and optimistic. I believe in leaving a legacy behind and as such I am fortunate to be able to make a difference to the lives of children in rural communities by working for an organization that truly echoes the words of President Nelson Mandela that “Education is the most important weapon that can be used to change the world.” Being the Chief Executive Officer of The KZN Science Centre means that I am able to work with a team that is dedicated to teaching science education and science awareness to the communities of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), this is done through mobile laboratories that travel to learners throughout KZN, a physical science museum that can be visited by schools and the general public as well as hosting a variety of teacher training workshops. The KZN Science Centre has a beneficiary list of over 180 000 learners, teachers and parents across KZN per year and thus is one of the largest organizations of its kind in South Africa. As a leading non-profit organization, the work that is achieved by the organization is due to sponsorship and donation by corporate and governmental organizations and we hope that from work such as #Selfie25, we are able to get people more aware of the need for education programmers to be sponsored and uplifted in South Africa!
