"We have been working with the State Security Agency, which has audited all these processes, and the provincial education departments have to follow the operating standard procedures on storage points and follow all the security protocols."

In KZN, over 193,000 full-time and part-time candidates are sitting for the final exams.

About 207 NSC papers will be written over the next six weeks.

Speaking at a briefing on Sunday, the minister said there would be over 72,000 invigilators monitoring exam centres nationwide.

"Moreover, the specific collection time for question papers by chief invigilator has been established to deter any access of the papers, and each PED has his own regulatory committee to anticipate and mitigate any crisis that may arise."

English Home Language Paper 1 and Second Language Paper 1 are being written on Monday morning.
