Security plan underway following Durban train station fires
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
Passenger rail agency, PRASA says it will implement new security measures to ensure the safety of commuters and infrastructure.

This after several coaches were torched by angry commuters following delays at the Durban and Berea stations yesterday.
Group CEO, Cromet Molepo addressed reporters in the city earlier.
"We're introducing technology so that we can replay incidents. We will also be introducing technology to improve communication between the driver and the control room. Those are the improvements which will then reduce the number of authorisations," he says.

Molepo said the fires caused damage to the tune of around R9-million. He says PRASA loses a number of trains every month as a result of vandalism across the country.
"We brought back about 560 coaches but during the same period, we lost 800. So we became worse off than we were. The consequences of that is that we are running shorter trains. Those are the compounding problems created by the attack on the system," he says.
