Security guard in court for alleged cable theft

A security guard is appearing in the KwaDukuza Magistrates Court today for his alleged involvement in cable theft.
He's said to have been among a group of men who stole over R50 000 worth of copper cables on a railway line in Umhlali.
Police spokesperson, Nqobile Gwala says the SAPS received a report about the theft on Saturday morning.
She says officers spotted the suspected thieves emerging from bushes near the railway line - but they ran back in when they saw the cops.

"A search was conducted in the bush and a 33-year-old man was placed under arrest for tampering and damaging essential infrastructure.
During his arrest, it was established that the suspect is a security guard working on the railway line. Stolen copper was seized from the suspect. The estimated street value of the recovered copper is R52 425-00."
The other suspects managed to flee.
