Officers Vusi Moyana and Jabu Jojisa were ambushed at the Namibia Informal Settlement where they had gone to serve a protection order on tuesday.

The suspects are alleged to have stripped them of their uniforms and forced them to hand over their service pistols before stuffing the pair in the back of their police van and driving off to another area where they shot both of them.

Moyana died instantly while Jojisa was rushed to hospital where she is still recovering.

Yesterday, KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Mmamonye Ngobeni took members of the media to the house where the officers were overpowered.

A security guard certificate was found in the house.

Ngobeni has issued a warning to criminals.

"I want to say to the criminals our police officers are very well-trained and they understand what is expected of them. So, they [criminals] better desist from committing these acts of criminality because once they do that, we will use the resources that we have to track them [down]," she warned.

The suspects were taken into custody at Marianhill yesterday morning. Kwazulu-Natal police say they were found in possession of the two officers' service pistols. Moyana's cellphone was also recovered. the trio are expected to appear in court soon.
