Search for missing teenager continues at Margate main beach
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The search continues for a 17-year-old Sibongumusa High School student, presumed to have drowned at Margate main beach.
Two other female students also drowned in the same incident.
The boy was with other students and staff at a school outing on Saturday night in the south coast resort town.
The National Sea Rescue Institute's Craig Lambinon says up to 9 school children were assisted by bystanders after getting into difficulty.
He says lifeguards had completed their duties for the day and the beach was unmanned at the time of the incident.
Lambinon says the two girls who drowned were 15 and 16-years-old.
"A 17-year-old male remains missing also believed to be from the same school, on the same school outing. Police search and rescue were continuing with that ongoing search," he said.
