Search for fisherman who fell overboard in St Lucia

A search has resumed for a KwaZulu-Natal fisherman who is lost at sea.

Officials say he and another angler were fishing off their boat in Maphelane Bay in St Lucia when they fell overboard. 


It's believed the vessel was hit by two waves. 


The National Sea Rescue Institute's Craig Lambinon says one of the men was rescued and treated for shock and minor injuries.

"During the search, the missing fisherman's lifejacket and his raincoat were located and recovered in the surf line. 


"Police and NSRI also conducted extensive shoreline search efforts. Despite an extensive sea and shoreline search there remains no sign of the missing fisherman. 


"Police have opened an investigation and police search and rescue are continuing in an ongoing search."
