The boy had been swimming at Sheffield beach in KwaDukuza when he got into difficulty yesterday afternoon.

IPSS Medical Rescue's Paul Herbst says the search had to be suspended off due to strong winds and rough seas.

"Upon arrival of the IPSS aquatics team, KwaDukuza lifeguards and a rescue drone was flown to try and search for the body," he said.

Police say the boy had been swimming at 1pm when he disappeared below the surface of the water.

Officers say he got into difficulty at a no-bathing beach.
