Search continues after Cape fishing tragedy
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
Three fishermen remain missing at sea after a ship ran into trouble off the coast of Kleinmond in the Western Cape.
It has now been confirmed that nine seamen have died, and not ten as initially reported.
The vessel took on water last night, and its 21-member crew abandoned ship.
The National Sea Rescue Institute's Craig Lambinon says officials have managed to rescue nine fishermen, while efforts are underway to tow the ship to Cape Town.
''The search is continuing for three fishermen that remain missing 20 nautical miles south of Hangklip. At this stage an Oryx Airforce helicopter has engaged in the search together with two fishing vessels and that search is ongoing.
''The casualty vessel is under tow and attempts are being made to bring her to the port of Table Bay by a sister ship belonging to the same company,'' he said.
