Search for boy swept off south coast beach
Updated | By Bernadette Wicks
A search continues for a 12-year-old boy who disappeared beneath the waters near Leisure Bay, on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast, yesterday.
Craig Lambinon, who's the spokesperson for the National Sea rescue Institute, says swimmers from the Port Edward base along with various other emergency workers descended on the popular tourist spot just before midday.
"The NSRI Port Edward police search and rescue and Medi-vac Ambulance responded to Kidds Beach following reports of a drowning in progress. On arrival on scene, it was found that a 12-year-old local child had gone missing in the surf," Lambinon said.
Lambinon says bystanders tried to reach him but were not able to secure the boy.

"The police search and rescue team are continuing an ongoing search operation, and police have opened an investigation," he said.
