Scottburgh beach open again
Updated | By Newswatch
The Scottburgh beach, south of KwaZulu-Natal has been reopened.
This, after bathing was banned due to dislodged shark nets, that were moved by windy conditions at sea.
Initial reports by the KZN Sharksboard (KZNSB) had stated that the water quality was also compromised due to the recent flooding.
Acting KZNSB HOD of Operations, Greg Thompson, clarified the statement, saying mention of the water quality had nothing to do with pollution.
CEO of Ugu South Coast Tourism, Phelisa Mangcu, said it was unfortunate that the flooding occurred at the height of the festive season, but that the safety of holidaymakers was always a primary concern.
“We’d like to assure everyone that Scottburgh Beach is once again open for bathing, and that all necessary safety measures are in place. We rely on the expertise of both KZN Sharks Board and the lifesavers to ensure the safety of all beachgoers, and thank everyone for their co-operation over this time.”
Scottburgh Beach was reopened on Thursday.
