Schools should relook at policies: Gauteng MEC
Updated | By ECR Newswatch
The MEC for Education in Gauteng says schools should reformulate their policies to accommodate all students.
This after a group of girl pupils from Windsor House Academy in Kempton Park were apparently sent home for having braids in their hair.
A family member of one of the learners took to social media on Monday - bringing attention to the dismissal.
"I'm at a loss and although we've ranted about this, black girls' hair is still being policed in schools - My niece said all the girls with braids, dreads and 'inappropriate' hair were summoned and were proceeded to be told off," part of the post reads.

Reacting to the incident, MEC Panyaza Lesufi says it's an issue that must be resolved so as not cost these pupils time in the classroom.
Sadtu in Gauteng has issued a statement saying, this compromises children’s right to education as per the Constitution.
Earlier this year, Lesufi released findings of a probe that was instituted after some pupils from Pretoria Girls High staged protests at against the hair policy.
School management and Education officials are in talks.
