SAWS warns to brace for heavy rains as Tropical Storm Eloise sets to intensify
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
South African Weather Services says tropical storm Eloise is expected to reach the intensity of a tropical cyclone this weekend - as it heads toward the Mozambique Channel today.
It says once it enters the warm waters it's expected to intensify further before making landfall around Vilankulos, Mozambique on Saturday evening.
The weather service says after making landfall it is expected to track further south-westwards towards the border of SA and Mozambique.
SAWS says, "Possible impacts as a result of all this rain include widespread flooding, damage to roads and bridges as well as possible displacement of affected communities."

They say the system is likely to result in Gauteng and North West provinces also receiving some rainfall on Monday and Tuesday.
⚠️NB for Mozambique: Latest update indicates a possible Intense Tropical Cyclone Eloise with sustained winds of 95 knots (175km/h) hitting close to the Beira area on Saturday.

They say it is important to note that the accurate prediction of the track (or path) of tropical weather disturbances is very challenging indeed.

"Tropical weather systems are notorious for their often erratic and unpredictable movement. SAWS will therefore continue to closely monitor this system and will keep the public advised."
