body Umalusi says it's satisfied with the way the 2022 matric exams were
conducted, and has given the green light for the release of the results.
Umalusi CEO Mafu Rako-metsi gave an update on its assessment of the results on Monday.
The results are set to be released by Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga on Thursday.
He says students who wrote exams last year faced some of the worst interruptions in the build-up to matric.
"While we acknowledged the class of 2022 suffered the worst part of Covid-19, in that they were confronted with a disrupted academy year when in grades 10 and 11.
“Umalusi is satisfied with the kinds of interventions that the department of Basic Education and all other bodies put in place to reduce the negative impact of lost time."
Rakometsi says there have also been reports of students who were cheating.
"This includes candidates found in possession of script notes and cellphones. Sharing of answers via WhatsApp groups, in posters found in examination rooms. Some answer scripts had different handwriting.”
He says some case are still under investigation.
