SATAWU warns salary impasse could lead to national bus strike
Updated | By Lethiwe Mdluli
A national bus strike is looming.

Wage negotiations between unions in the transport sector and employers have deadlocked.
Workers want a one-year 12% wage increase across the board with a basic minimum wage of R8 000.
The employers are offering a three-year deal with a 7% increase for the first year, 7.25 for the second and 7.5% in the third year.
They want the minimum wage to stay at just over R6 000.
SATAWU spokesperson, Zanele Sabela says if an agreement is not reached by next Wednesday - they will down tools.
"We have been in negotiations with employers since January. Unfortunately, those negotiations have not yielded an agreement. If it had been reached, it would be implemented on April 1. We have obtained a certificate to go on strike," Sabela said.
