Satawu strikes down Transnet's latest wage offer

The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu) says its members have rejected the latest wage offer put on the table by Transnet.
Workers at the state-owned entity have downed tools.
Satawu and the United National Transport Union (Untu) are demanding a wage increase of between 12 and 13.5%.

The union’s Amanda Tshemese says Transnet has tabled a new offer of between 4.25% to 5% across the board following their meeting at the CCMA.
But she says workers feel it’s too far below the inflation rate.
"We are not going to accept it. We feel like it is still way too below. The strike is going to continue until the employer tables something that is reasonable."
