SASSA in KZN: Over R544m collected by ineligible persons
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) in KZN says it's looking to claw back millions of rands received fraudulently by people who'd claimed to be grant beneficiaries.

The social security agency says just over R544 million has been collected by individuals who do not qualify for grants but misrepresented their eligibility.
Provincial spokesperson Sandy Godlwana says of the half-a-billion rand fraudulently collected, they've had to write off about half as it was paid to people who are unemployed.
She says they have roped in four debt collection agencies to help get back the money.
"These are debt collectors that will use a range of collection activities.
"Under no circumstances should our clients pay money directly to the debt collection agencies.
"All outstanding funds must be paid directly into a SASSA account. It is important that clients visit their SASSA office immediately once they receive this SMS, and it is important that the clients complete a form where there will be an agreement in terms of the funds that will be paid."
